Research analysts looking into the supply and sales processes at M&S have suggested that with a change in systems, supply chain and buying processes, the retail giant could dramatically improve its general merchandise gross margin. They also noted that when compared with peers in the same sector, gross margins in apparel could likely be much higher than the average that M&S has historically delivered. (more…)

After the acquisition of Hopkinson Transport, tanker business Norbert Dentressangle is set to expand. The news comes after Norbert Dentressangle reached sales of more than €1.1 billion.
Hopkinson is a family-run business that currently has a fleet of 25 vehicles which store and transport bulk powder and PVC resin. (more…)

According to the latest UK Logistics Confidence Index, the logistics industry saw a rise in confidence in the second half of 2013, compared to the beginning of the year.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has launched a new scheme which will encourage and promote improvement within the driver agency sector.
The Driver Agency Accreditation Scheme will provide verification to both employees and customers, showing that driver agencies promote good practice. It also hopes to reduce corporate and operational risk and highlight an areas of non-compliance. (more…)

According to research carried out by SCM World, they found that only 10 percent of senior leadership roles are held by women in supply chain operations.
They carried out a review of all Fortune Global 500 companies who have a physical supply chain to collect the figures. It’s of stark contrast to general research that found only 24 percent of leadership roles across all industries were occupied by women. (more…)
