Changes to M&S supply chain could “dramatically improve” gross margins

Research analysts looking into the supply and sales processes at M&S have suggested that with a change in systems, supply chain and buying processes, the retail giant could dramatically improve its general merchandise gross margin. They also noted that when compared with peers in the same sector, gross margins in apparel could likely be much higher than the average that M&S has historically delivered. (more…)

Confidence boosted in the logistics industry

Stobart announces plans to sell majority stake in logistics company

Stobart Group’s transportation and distribution business is to be floated as a private company called Eddie Stobart Logistics after it sold 51 percent of its stake.

The majority share was bought by funds managed by DBAY, an asset management firm based in the Isle of Man. Eddie Stobart Logistics will still retain its family heritage, with William Stobart becoming CEO of the company.  (more…)

Only ten percent of supply chain leadership roles are occupied by women

According to research carried out by SCM World, they found that only 10 percent of senior leadership roles are held by women in supply chain operations.

They carried out a review of all Fortune Global 500 companies who have a physical supply chain to collect the figures. It’s of stark contrast to general research that found only 24 percent of leadership roles across all industries were occupied by women. (more…)
